Long back in 1981, when His Holiness Sri Sri Ravishankar saw the construction workers’ children playing in sand, mud and cement. He felt compassion towards them and wanted to do something to improve the quality of their lives. The parents of these children however, did not want to even part with them. So a small centre with a few aayas and one teacher was started . In the beginning, the parents had to be coaxed into sending their children over there. Being illiterate and poor, they themselves had no idea of how much better their lives could be . |

The children were literally cleaned
, bathed and clothed only in the school and
slowly they were taught the basic hygiene. They
were fed in the afternoons , toys and games were
bought for them. In this way they got used to the
idea of coming to school. Slowly the literary campaign
also began and their first formal education started
taking shape. |
